Interview Questions

How was it to play the role of Penelope? “It was fun and frightening, I wanted to try a different style of acting. I loved playing Penelope she was quite a unique character to play but I had a lot of fun! “Have you watched it? “Of course I have watched it! “Did you find it scary or unusual to watch yourself? “Yes although I knew a lot of how thing where done it still completely scared the sock off, of me and I found it rather weird to be scared by myself “What was it like getting makeup done every day to produce the character of Penelope? “At first I loved it and found it exciting, but then after the 20th time of them touching up and fixing my makeup it became stressful and an annoyance but the outcome was always outstanding! “Would you act in a horror again? “Defiantly maybe not straight away as I have a few movies coming up that I will be working on but I wouldn’t rule it out!”

                   Frightening stills from the movie

If you’re looking for a real frightening horror look no further Penelope is a must see!

The movie is about a pot doll that turns into a girl (sounds cheesy I know) this movie isn’t as boring as it seems it is jumpy, tense, beyond scary and everything you could look for in a movie. A family move to a new house when suddenly nothings what it seems when they have moved into Penelope’s house she isn’t interested in a tea party but more of a blood bath

Evaluation

For this project I had chosen to do food, I chose this as I enjoy shooting this and I have a connection with this particular topic. For this project I wanted to produce eight images I was happy and satisfied with. I ended up getting eight image I was proud of. I however would have liked to get more variety with my images but I didn’t have the money to buy a large variety of props and cakes and ingredients so I has to do as best as I could with what I had. I think that I did rather well, and I am proud with the outcome of my images. I got my images printed at Pro-Am size 8x10 but I have had to cut the border down as the images I used I didn’t want to crop to size. I am very happy with the outcome of my images. I found all the research hard to do but I managed to power through and I am very happy I got all the research done in time because usually it is the last think I want to do. I found it easier for me to express what I was doing through mood boards this is a good way for me to overcome my learning disability mood boards have been great to show which photographers I have been looking at and which I have go my interest from. So in my project I had to do film both colour and black and white I absolutely hate using film because I can never manage to get it right. This time I tried my hardest to get the settings correct but it didn’t work well because I hardly got and images. I wasn’t happy about this at all but I tried it and didn’t approve. I wanted to at least have the option to maybe use the film images but I didn’t have enough time in the darkroom and the images that where actually developed went the ones I would of liked to use. I have only edited one image to show my experimental side again I didn’t have enough time to do this but I have produced one which I actually really like and was rather easy to do. If I was to go back on the whole project I would make myself create more time and produce more. If I had the money I would also change the variety of cakes and props I had to change up the images more. I would try film again but it probably still wouldn’t work out for me. However it wasn’t all bad and I enjoyed the research more this time and I am very pleased with my final images and my outcome of the project I tried my hardest so I am pleased. If I were to choose a different topic for this project I think I would chose architecture which I, thought I would never want to try out but know am finding that I am interested in this so I think I will set myself another project of my own.

Darkroom Planning + Evaluation

Darkroom Shoot
Planning
The plan for the film shoot is to use a different variety of cakes to the digital shoot. I will shoot this at home with natural lighting. My aim is to do both the black and white and colour shoot on the same day as we can’t get in the colour darkroom because there is no chemicals to use I won’t really be focusing on this shoot. I will however make sure that I scan this shoot in and contact print it. I will be using props such as cups, plates, knives, forks etc. I will be using the same equipment for both shoots and the same props and cakes as money is an issue to create all the shoots. I will try my best to make sure they look different from one another and hopefully I will be able to afford two different types of cakes along with the different props.
Evaluation

The black and white film shoot went better than the colour but I am still not pleased with the outcome I tried my hardest when shooting to get the settings right but for some reason I struggle with film a lot. I don’t really like any images I shot in black and white which I am annoyed about but I was never going to use film for my final images but it would have been nice to have the option too. I got both colour and black and white film processed at Pro-Am. I picked it up on the Friday and didn’t have a lot of time when I got back to college in the darkroom, when I got in my enlarger wasn’t working and there wasn’t any other spaces so we had to change everything round so I could get to work and in the end I was only able to complete one image. I did the contact strips and obviously had to change the settings until it was right so I was actually pretty surprised I managed to get one finished. The colour film came out absolutely awful I think I only got two images and the rest are too exposed which I am very angry about because again I tried my hardest to get it right but it obviously wasn’t correct. So all in all my film shoots where awful.

Target Audience

Target Audience

My target audience world be to anyone whom had an interest in cooking/baking. My images would appeal to people wanting to make something knew or try a different recipe to their old one. My images would appeal to magazine company’s what are promoting a certain recipe or looking for one to add to the magazine. My audience doesn’t so much have an age rang as anybody could be interested in cooking. However ages under 3 wouldn’t participate but ages 4+ could participate with an adult so my chosen topic has a rather large age range.

Experimental

I tried the liquify tool on Photoshop to get this effect I only targeted the flower in this image to get the effect it was painted I think this image looks very unusual and different.

FINAL IMAGES EDITED

This image is one of the planer ones I wanted to get a few shots of the cake with just the flowers and a few of the props first to see which I preferred.
I absolutely love this close up image of the cake it bright and you can see the detail very clearly I think this would work well for a magazine.
This images again is close up but has a bit more of a background then the one above which just gives the image a bit more interest too it.

This image is my favourite image out of the lot and would be great for the front cover of a bake book or magazine such as 'good food'
I love the angel of this image and think it would work well for a recipe.

FOOD N DRINK SHOOT CONTACT PRINT

For this shoot I had painted big pieces of wood different colours to make the backgrounds. I wanted to make this shoot unusual and I had started to use props such as the flowers drinks bottle and drinks mat. I enjoyed this shoot but for some reason I didn't this the images where as good as what I wanted them to be and I was rather disappointed. Again this was a home shoot so I had to shoot in the room that has the most natural light.

FINAL IMAGES CONTACT PRINT

The planning

For this shoot i will buy a selection of cakes and props and do a home shoot. My plan is to hopefully get a vintage feel to my images. As I am doing a shoot at home I am going to have to find a spot with the most natural light. I will shoot on some form of background which I am not sure of what yet, I have painted some boards different colours so I may shoot on these. I am planning on buying props such as plates, glasses, flowers etc.

The shoot

This shoot went very well I am more than happy with the out come of my images the lighting was bright as I shot inside I had to shoot in the place that had the most natural light. I enjoyed shooting and setting this shoot up a lot. I shot a few images of the roses as you cant see then in most of my images I shot because they where in a vase. I tried shooting at different angels as I normally shoot central I loved this shoot! The shoot overall mostly went to plan however I didn't manage to get a wide variety of cakes and props and for these it would cost a lot of money which I didn't happen to have so I had to make do with what I could afford and I am very proud of what I have achieved.

Carl Warner - 'Foodscapes' Mood Board

I am so interested in trying this out for myself on a much smaller scale. I think this is so unique and different it also looks like such fun but at the same time the results are outstanding and so creative. His work is very fun compared to other food photographers and it is great for advertising purposes as it will defiantly catch the eyes of the public without a doubt, and that's something for myself to bare in mind although I am photographing cakes I could for instance a recipe book the front cover could be more creative to catch the eye of the public as a way of marketing.

Landscape - Adam Burton

Martin Parr - Mood Board

Martin Parr's work is very simple and very bright. His work to me is the reality of food and what it actually looks like when you sit down and eat it. He has shot lots of images of baked goods such as cakes, buns and doughnuts. I think Martins way of photographing is to make thinks look less fancy more realistic which works for him but wouldn't work for someone of this era creating a recipe book of wanting to shoot food for a magazine. I feel everything is more modern now but from his work I will take the fact his images are colourful and fun to look at.

Food/Cake Mood Boards

I have looked at different types of food photography and found that this time I would like too shoot cakes. I think they are interesting things to photograph as cakes are always interestingly decorated and are usual bright. Although I have decided to shoot cakes I am also interested in creative images of food such as using the food to create a scene of somewhere of a image within it's self. I will defiantly try this out.

Linda Lomelino - Mood Board

I like Linda's work a lot she is my favourite photographer. She mainly shoots food but sometimes shoots landscapes and places I have found out this as I follow he Instagram and look on her Blog. Her style of photography is rustic simple yet effective and I love all the images I have come across that have been shot by Linda. Her work has given me a lot of inspiration for my Final Project. I like the fact she co-operates a lot of props into her work and she manages to made it look homely. I like the way most of her images are shot square or rectangle I like the way she edits them with a lot of contrast.

Proposal

For my project I want to base it on Food Photography. I enjoyed working on our previous Food Project and felt like I had a better connection with this project than any other, and I know I want to explore it further. I would like to base my final project on magazine and bake/cook books. I am interested in the advertising side of food photography and how it makes a huge effect on the public and how simple images can change how they see food. I will experiment throughout my project with film and use different techniques. For my final outcome I am planning on having eight final images. I want to make up four Food Posters advertising different topics, two magazine covers and two pages in a bake/cook book including the recipes. I think that by covering all these I will be covering the main advertising/interest points for food photography in advertising. Since finishing my research I have decided I will be taking images of cakes, cupcakes and other baking goods. I'm not sure yet if I will use film for some of my final images until I experiment with it, but for now I plan to shoot my final images in digital. My main inspiration has been a cook and photographer named Linda Lomelino. Linda has been my main interest into Food Photography I find her style really unique and interesting. Her images are rustic and have a dated feel to them. I like how simple her images are but effective. She has her own bake book, for this she has done all the photography herself. I will look at more food photographers old a new to get more of an idea of what style I will photograph in, whether or not I will use props etc. I think for my final images I will make them into a recipe book somehow digitally or may get them printed into a book. I will choose my favourite image from this project and get it printed onto either wood, PVC, Perspex, Card or normal photographic paper and frame it. I will probably get this done at CC imaging based in Leeds. I want to print one of my final images on a sustainable background because this is something I have never done and I think it will make my work look more professional. If I have any more I wish to print I will get these done at Proam.

MY FINAL IMAGES AND DARKROOM HAVE BEEN PUT IN MOLLY SPENCER'S DARKROOM FOLDER AT THE BACK - LABELLED

EVALUTATION

For this project we were asked to produce two colour and two black and white film images and a number of tasks to complete in-between.I didn't enjoy this project and I didn't enjoy working in the darkroom as my negatives were too over exposed and I only had two images I could work with. we didn't have enough time in the darkroom so I think I would have done better if there was more time. I didn't enjoy the brief and would have preferred to have worked in digital as I shot a lot in digital. I didn't enjoy anything about this project and had a hard time getting into it. I struggle with my writing and find it hard to do the writing tasks such as research and evaluations.

Repetition

I scanned my black and white negs onto the computre. In the darkroom my negatives where too over exposed to use. The image of the chess piece is the only image I got that i could work with in the dark room but the bigger the image got i realised it was blurry. I put the image into photoshop I sharpened it and manipulated it and cast different colours over the image and put them all together to create a piece of repetition to get the look of Pop Art.
I enjoyed doing this piece of work as i felt that i hadn't completely wasted my time and i got something out of my black and white negatives.
